“Statue of Unity” was put on sale on OLX for INR 30,000 cr, FIR lodged against an unknown person
In Gujarat state, an unknown person had put the statue of unity for sale on OLX via an online advertisement in order to meet the requirement of money for the government to build hospitals and other related infrastructure to fight coronavirus.
At Rajpipla, the unknown man put the online advertisement on OLX to sell the statue to unity in Kevadiya in the Narmada district for INR 30,000 cr.
The Sardar Patel memorial, known as the statue of unity is 182 meters tall. It is famous as the world’s tallest such structure and is attracting lakhs of people worldwide. Its inauguration has been done by PM Narendra Modi in 2018.
As of now, the FIR has been lodged against this unknown person for putting online advertisement to sell a statue of unity, said Kevadiya police station official.
The issue came into limelight when an article was published in the newspaper showing the online ad to sell the Sardar Patel’s memorial. The memorial authorities approached the police station. Cases of cheating and forgery had been filed under IPC, epidemic diseases Act and Information Technology Act.
The advertisement was taken off by the website, soon after it was posted.
A release from the chief administrator stated that in spite of the fact that the person was not authorized to sell government property, this online advertisement on OLX misleads the people and defaming the government. It further states this advertisement hurts the sentiments of crores of people who idolize Sardar Patel.
