Andhra Pradesh is a state in India, located on the southern east coast of the country. The state is known for festivals like stone crafting, doll making, sculpture carving, beautiful paintings, Yaksha Ganam, Urmula Natyam, Ghato Natyam, Sankranti.
The northern region of Andhra Pradesh is mountainous. Mahendragiri highest peak rises 1,500 meters above sea level. The climate is generally hot and humid. The annual rainfall is 125 cm. Krishna and Godavari are the major rivers of the state.
Andhra Pradesh has a 175 seats of single-chamber Legislative Assembly. So far, the state has sent 60 members to the National Parliament of India, 11 to the Rajya Sabha (upper house) and 25 to the Lok Sabha (lower house).
The state of Andhra Pradesh is bifurcated and a state called Telangana is excluded from it. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014 bill was passed in February 2014, in favor of the formation of Telangana state, which consists of 10 districts of northwestern Andhra Pradesh. The new state came into existence as the 29th state of India with effect from 2 June 2014 after the approval of the President of India. Hyderabad was declared to remain the capital of both states for ten years. However, the Andhra Pradesh government proposed a new capital for the state in the Vijayawada region.
