Her children are everything to the parents. They can go to any extent for their children, even if that path is a waste of their own. But if their children are doing well in it, then the parents do not think for a minute. And after the children grow up, when they want to get away from their traditions and love in the name of freedom, then what will be lost on the parents! It is shown in the very laughable film ‘English Medium’.
This is the story of Champak living in Rajasthan (Irrfan Khan) Champak is the grandson of the famous Halwai Ghasitaram of Rajasthan. And a long and wide family is fighting among themselves to use the name of Ghasitaram and the interesting thing is that the fight is only legal but everyone’s love is intact. Champak has raised his daughter Tarini (Radhika Madan) single-handedly since childhood. Tarani’s dream is to go to Britain and study and Champak uses many papads for it, and he is supported by his cousin Ghasitaram Bansal (Deepak Dobriyal). Will Champak be able to take his daughter to London? Has Will Tarini’s dream come true? The film English Medium is woven from this fabric.
Director Homi Adajania has beautifully portrayed the relationship between the father and daughter, while on the other hand, the chemistry between Deepak Dobriyal and Irrfan Khan, who are fighting a legal battle between themselves, is also presented in an excellent manner. The childhood friendships of Irrfan Khan, Deepak Dobriyal and Kiku Sharda provide a different example of relationships. The way Homi linked the English medium to the metaphor of relationships is commendable.
Irrfan Khan completely overshadows the character of Champak Jain. It is pleasant to see them on screen. Deepak Dobriyal fully supports him. Radhika Madan has proved her acting ability in her first films, this character once again confirms her acting ability. Kiku Sharda is one of the few comedians who also perform well. The rest of his fellow comedians have introduced his weak acting in different films.
It was a pleasant experience to see Dimple Kapadia on the big screen after a long time, her effortless acting is her specialty. Kareena Kapoor’s part was not much, but for which she was kept, she played her responsibility fully. Overall, it will not be wrong to say that ‘English medium’ is not as strong as ‘Hindi medium’ but the journey of feelings of father, daughter, brother and brother and friends that touches your heart. Irrfan Khan, who comes on screen after a long time fighting his illness, is bound to watch this film.
