The action –drama movie stared Balaji Sakthivel, Prakash Raj, Pasupathy, Subramania Siva, Yogi Babu and Aadukalam Naren, in supporting characters. The technical team comprised of GV prakash, cinematographer Velraj and editor Ramar.
The story has the elements of suspence, action, drama, thriller all through the movie. In the movie, at the midnight and the crawling sound of insect’s hawls you, you see an aged man of 50 years wading through the deep water along with his son Chidambaram (ken karunas). The latter committed murder of a Gory and the relatives of the deceased are on prowl over him. Head on to cinemas to know what happened to the father and son? How they evaded form the situation? It’s worth seeing how Vetri Maaran managed to make the audience feel eerie, tensed and longing at the same time in the story.
Asuran is an adaptation of tamil novel Vekkai, which was written by Poomani. Vetri Maaran has developed the gist of the novel in the movie form and gave life to imaginary characters. He created a unique world from his imagination that portrays the life of people from Tirunelveli.
The whole team along with Vetri Maaran worked hard to enliven the nativity of Tirunelveli through the personalized gestures of that community, dialogues, age-old practices and the regular body language which they follow.
Asuran is the most violent film of Dhanush’s career and it is most important film of vetri maaran’s career too.
as the title name Asuran suggests, the movie gives a message that a demon( Asur) exists in every person and it wakes up when the bundled up emotions inside someone’s soul is provoked. Asuran, is a movie that is made on a bundle of characters that questions the prevailing system and who tries to break the stereotypes.
In the movie, there are many scenes that can surge the emotions inside you abruptly but that one scene that reveals out the harsh truth of communal oppression is when the ammu abirami(mariyamma) is compelled to do a walk of shame because she wore a set of slippers in her school. She was made to bear the oppression because she belonged to the suppressed community.
There are many scenes in the movie that represent the high degrees of torture that an individual of lower community faces in the community. The movie works a great job by awaking the people from the horrible practices that exists in India in the 1980s. The communities on that time promote untouchability, discrimination and casteism.
Asuran is a unique solid revenge –survival drama from Dhanush and Vetri Maaran combo. Manju Warrier is seen in the character of Pachaiyammal , who is a daring and bold character in the movie. She dared to fight with a bunch of men who was obstructing her way for wrong purpose. While shooting that scene, Manju Warrier took the whole responsibility on her and heightened up tall as like any hero of the movie.
Dhaanush played the role of strong father Sivasamy. He sinks himself completely in the character. In the movie, he seems to portray emotions with his eyes and he portrays a characters of 50- year old father so effortlessly when his contemporaries, older than him struggles to justify the older characters.
Disappointments of the ASURAN
- Teejay Arunasalem who portrayed Murugan in the film, did well in the movie with his expression and body languages but his overall performance disappoints the viewers due to bad lip-sync . This proved a major grouse in the first half.
- the another disappointment that viewers felt while watching the movie was the flashback scene of Dhanush, Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj, went too long than it actually should have.
Bonus of the ASURAN
- A magnificent work was done by the technical team of ASURAN. The cinematographer, Velraj captured the landscape of the Thekkoru village so adamantly that the tempting heat and sultry weather of the town can be felt actually by the viewers through his splendid shots.
- The movie’ Asuran’ is a big fortune reversal for composer GV Prakash who is busy in acting film now-a –days. The Vaa Asura track revitalizes the spirit and elevates the scenic imageries.
- The stunts by peter Hein took movie to another level of action and drama. The stunts look real in the movie.
Violence is not a solution for any problem but the grounding of the characters in the movie will make you stick to your seats. The characters in the movie are seen to slash the throat to those who done wrong to them. The character gone through injustice that made them to avenge themselves a justice. When you see the movie, you also felt the urge and emotions of the movie characters. Asuran left a strong message as the movie ends which has a greater relevance in the contemporary times.
