Important Notice: These SBI Debit Cards Will Be Useless from January 1,2020

SBI customers can apply for the issue of new cards via different modes. They can apply through net banking, SBI’s Yono app or directly through the home branch.

This is the news that is going viral on the social media from a couple of days. according to this news, if you are an SBI customer and you are still using your old debit cards then you should be careful as your old card is going to be of no use from the 1st January 2020. So, you need to change it before 1st January of the upcoming year, if you want to enjoy your new year from peace.

The new debit card will have an EMV chip integrated on it and it will be based on the pin system. the old magnetic card will be replaced from the new EMV chip integrated app.

The SBI stated that the consumer can replace it as soon as possible with a new card from their home bank branch. The bank said in a statement, “apply now to change your old magnetic strip debit card into more secured EMV chip and pin-based debit card in your near home branch before 1st January 2020”. The new EMV chip debit card provides you greater authenticity, greater security for online payments and added security against fraudsters.

Recently the SBI Bank tweeted that “in view of the continuing frauds on the magnetic stripe cards, it is proposed to deactivate these cards by 31-12-2019 (irrespective of the validity period of the card). In case any SBI customer has not received the new EMV chip card, they are requested to approach his/her home branch,” the bank said.

Method to update SBI debit Card

The SBI customers can update their SBI debit cards through different modes. They can change their magnetic cards into EMV chip cards through net banking, SBI’s Yono app or form the nearby home branches of the SBI banks.

If in any case, the charge is deducted from their account in the updating process of their debit card, they can request for a refund at the branch along with the proof of amount charged from their account.

Keep in mind that the renewed card will be sent to the user’s registered address to their respective accounts. In case you have not updated your current address in your SBI bank account, update it as soon as possible for the completion and getting the new updated card on your address.
