The FASTag is linked with your prepaid account of the user and the applicable toll amount is deducted timely from the user’s account. The tag is featured by radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology and after the tag account is activated, it is affixed on the windscreen of vehicles.

FASTag is an exemplary solution for the disturbance free trip on national highways. It is predicted that in future, more toll plazas will be aided with the FASTag technology. Currently, the FASTag technology is applicable in approximately 180 toll plazas in state or national highways.

How FASTag works?

Now, from 1st December, 2019, all Indian national highways will collect the toll payments by FASTag technology also. In 2014, the radio frequency identification-based technology was installed as a pilot project. The government of Indiahas done partnership with 23 banks to support in the issuance of FASTag.

The government of India is now giving the opportunity to integrate the existing current and savings bank accounts with FASTag to regulate the seamless toll payments to everyplaza. further, the users will be given the option to pick a monthly prepaid pass. After December 1, if any commuter is seen to drive in the lane of FASTag vehicle, he will be fined the double applicable fee in cash.

FASTag is not transferrable and it can be used for single vehicle at its lifetime. The system will alert the driver about toll transactions and in cases of low account balance.

How to get FASTag for your vehicle

The banks which issue the FASTag in the country is state bank of India, ICICI bank, HDFC bank and Axis Bank etc. this year, the national highways authority of India has collaborated with amazon to offer FASTags in the country through online medium.

After buying FASTag for your vehicles., you need to link it with your existing bank account. Link it by using FASTag app in your portable android smartphone. In the linking process, you need to register your vehicle number in the app the explore the new experience. The app is also designed to recharge user’s RFID tag by UPI payment gateways. After completing this process, you can freely pass through any supported toll plaza.

The Indian government promise to give 2.5% of cashback to eligible FASTag customers in the current financial year.

  2. Banks are offering fastag with creating a separate fastag account. The major drawback with the dedicated fastag account is that you can transfer money to but cannot withdraw from it. So if you recharge it with a larger amount and after your journey you want to transfer the remaining amount to your savings account: that is simply not possible. This is what I came to know from bank websites. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
